Who are Wooldridges? You get your bank statement and there's a transaction for Wooldridges?Who on earth are Wooldridges, you ask? Chances are, you probably have kids and it's their schoolbooks you're paying for. We get loads of people calling up and asking what we actually sell, as many people are under the impression we only sell resources to schools. Well, the truth is, anyone can shop with us. We are open all year round to the public and sell educational supplies. That's right – school books, teaching resources, stationery, art supplies, posters, stickers, software, games, picture books, novels – if it's anything to do with kids and learning, chances are, we stock it. The story so far…Wooldridges A&M made its origins back in the early 1970s as a bookshop in Fremantle, Western Australia. It was purchased by Doug Wooldridge and the entire team consisted of one rep, one shop assistant, one accounts lady, one person to do all of the ordering and take phone calls as well as a couple of people to send out the goods.Just a tiny little bit smaller than it is today.. A few years later and the Fremantle bookshop made its home in O'Malley Street, Osborne Park. Business continued to grow and in 1982 Wooldridges was bought by its current owners, Norm & Shirley Majors. The following year, Wooldridges made its home at the Good Sammy building on Scarborough Beach Road Osborne Park - the ground where it stands to this day. Managed by the Majors family, Wooldridges grew to encompass both primary and secondary school supplies and resources. In 2003, Wooldridges merged with A&M Bookshop to make it the leading primary and secondary educational supplier in Australia. We now have six shops across Perth and the South-West, deal with customers on a local, interstate and international level and have a staff base of over 70 people! At the end of the day though, we're still just a family-owned company. We're unconditionally committed to all of our customers and this was rewarded in 1995 when we were accredited as being a 'Quality Assured Company'. So what's the big deal?Over the course of the year, we drift along merrily supplying resources to schools and educational goods to parents. We have six showrooms with all our stock on display and everybody and anybody is more than welcome to come in, have a cuppa and browse the store. If you come to our Osborne Park showroom, you might also catch a canine or two sniffing around the shelves..At Wooldridges, we like to think of ourselves as more than just a shop that sells books. One of our biggest commitments is to encourage the development of education. This is evident in the Professional Development seminars that we support throughout the year and the long-standing affiliations we have with various educational organisations. We also contribute to various community & school fundraising groups via organised sponsorship agreements. Being the devoted company that we are, at Wooldridges we pride ourselves on being on the forefront of new products and developments in the Education sector. You are more than welcome to give one of the ladies at the Call Centre a ring if you are looking for something in particular, or have heard about something new. Or if you'd prefer, drop us a line via email. We'll make sure to do our very best when it comes to finding what you need. Teachers can also contact us for goods to view on approval. This is a great idea where we can bring out (or post if you're out in the country!) some resources for you to have a look at for a couple of weeks, and if you decide you want to keep them, we'll just send you the invoice. If you decide they're not quite what you're after – no worries. As long as you return them within the specified time frame, there's no obligation or cost involved. This is only available to our school account customers though, so make sure you have your school order number at the ready. (Please note that only stock lines can be taken out on Approval – random titles that we don't tend to have on the shelf can't be returned to the supplier if you don't want them…and we'll run out of shelf space if WE have to keep everything that gets returned!) And now the scary part…If you have ever caught us in the midst of Back-to-School time, we're sure you can appreciate what a busy time it is. Actually, that's a pretty big understatement right there. In January, we have half of Perth trying to cram into one of our six stores over the space of two weeks. Not a pretty sight or experience, given that it's in the middle of a hot, sweltering summer. When we put out booklists at the end of the school year, we try to encourage everyone to put their list in through the school before the cut off date. This allows us to collate all the information and order in the correct amount of products. They then get packed up according to class groups and bagged for your collection or home delivery. From past experience believe us, it's definitely the way to go. Coming into the shop in January is nothing short of a nightmare by any standard! Back-to-school fever hits us pretty hard from December through to February although we have dedicated teams working for several months of the year to make sure the whole process runs as smoothly as possible.
